The Human Touch: Why Authentic Writing Matters in the Age of AI
Are you in the charity sector and concerned about the authenticity of your content? Struggling to build a loyal donor base? Relying on AI for your writing needs?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading to discover why the human touch in writing is more important than ever.
AI is revolutionising many aspects of content creation, but when it comes to building trust with your audience, nothing can replace the genuine, human touch that a skilled writer brings.
This morning I read an article that reminded me why that human touch is needed now more than ever. The article was “Audiences wary of AI in journalism” By Sam Shead, Editor at LinkedIn News you can read the article here, https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/audiences-wary-of-ai-in-journalism-6804146/ and you can check out my LinkedIn post on the topic here (psst, why not follow me on LinkedIn for more articles, posts, top tips and hot takes)!
Shead highlights that “according to a report from the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford… audiences are comfortable with journalists using AI for behind the scenes tasks such as transcribing and translation, but they're relatively wary of outlets that use AI for content generation” (btw you can read more about why people are suspicious of newsrooms that use artificial intelligence here).
While the article focuses on journalism, the findings are significant for writers across all sectors, including the charity sector.
I’m not a journalist (although I’d love to be, if you’re reading this and you work at The Guardian hmu lol) but the theme of audience trust really resonated with me.
Building audience trust to add value for my clients through my writing is something I focus a lot on in my practice.
Don’t get me wrong, AI tools are excellent for automating routine tasks, but they fall short in capturing the nuanced understanding and emotional depth required to connect with readers on a meaningful level. This is particularly crucial in the charity sector, where trust and authenticity are the cornerstones of successful engagement.
My services as a freelance writer are designed to help your organisation build and maintain trust with your audience. Here’s why you can count on me:
Deep Understanding of Your Mission: Unlike AI, I take the time to understand the unique mission, vision, and values of your organisation. This allows me to create content that truly resonates with your audience.
Emotional Connection: Effective storytelling in the charity sector requires a deep emotional connection. I craft narratives that evoke empathy and inspire action, something AI-generated content simply cannot achieve.
Tailored Messaging: Every charity is different. I tailor my writing to reflect your organisation's unique voice and message, ensuring consistency and authenticity in all communications.
My 3 Top Tips for Building Audience Trust in the Charity Sector
Building trust with your audience is essential, and here are my top three tips to help your organisation achieve this:
1. Showcase Real Stories
Sharing genuine stories from the beneficiaries of your services can create a powerful emotional connection. Real stories humanise your work and provide tangible proof of the impact you're making. Whether it’s a success story or a testimonial, these narratives build credibility and trust.
2. Be Transparent About Your Finances
Transparency is key to building trust. Clearly communicating how donations are used and showcasing the impact of contributions reassures donors that their money is being used effectively. Regular financial reports and updates can help in maintaining this transparency.
3. Engage With Your Audience
Active engagement with your audience through social media, newsletters, and events shows that you value their support and opinions. Respond to comments, share updates, and involve them in your journey. This two-way communication fosters a loyal and trusting community.
